Manchester Digital Laboratory (MadLab) is a grassroots innovation organisation, based in Manchester UK. There primary areas of focus are science and technology; arts and culture. The have recently become official members of the global FabLab Network and their founders Asa Calow and Rachel Turner were part of the Living Research:Making in China project from which this research project grew. They support a diverse range of communities and activities – from monthly meetups and courses through to public experimentation with new & emerging technologies, and collaborating with others to deliver projects.
The principal activity at Madlab was a roundtable discussion, facilitated by MadLab directors Asa and Rachel and broadly focused on the community apect and values of Makerspaces. Mitch Altman and Marc Dusseiller from Hackteria , who were in residence at Madlab during our visit, also participated.
